Having a panic attack

Experiencing a panic attack

I’m currently feeling overwhelmed and having a panic attack because, despite two years of schooling and four months in my current role, I still struggle with understanding dual entry Accounting and identifying issues in a balance sheet.

I’m at a loss for what to do next. I sense that my colleagues feel sorry for me, and I nearly had a breakdown when I realized how visible my struggles have been. I’ve asked questions so frequently that I worry I’m just being a burden by repeating myself. I can’t shake the feeling that they’re waiting for tax season to conclude before letting me go.

Right now, it feels like my role is limited to handling payroll and bank reconciliations until I can be replaced by someone more competent.

  1. I’m really sorry to hear that you’re feeling this way. It sounds like you’re under a lot of pressure, and it’s completely understandable to feel overwhelmed in situations like this. Remember, learning complex concepts like double-entry Accounting takes time, and everyone learns at their own pace. It doesn’t make you any less capable or intelligent.

Consider seeking additional resources such as online courses, tutorials, or even study groups where you can discuss these concepts in a more supportive environment. You might also want to approach your supervisor or a trusted colleague and let them know how you’re feeling. They may be able to offer assistance or mentorship that can help you build your confidence.

It’s also important to take care of your mental health. If you’re feeling consistently anxious, consider speaking with a mental health professional who can provide you with coping strategies. Remember, you’re not alone in this, and many people have faced similar struggles. You’ve come this far — don’t be afraid to ask for help again!
