Has anyone ever seen a guy who makes

Has anyone ever come across someone earning less than $200k a year who made a life-changing sum of money in the stock market? I personally haven’t.

If you have, how often has it happened, and how long have you been in the Accounting field?

I ask because I recently heard about someone who made a significant profit in the stock market. He invested a substantial amount in Nvidia back in 2008, about the equivalent of a down payment on a house. However, he’s already wealthy, which is why he could afford to invest in the first place.

So, have you witnessed any working-class individuals striking it rich?

(And yes, the title of this thread is a bit awkward because I’m trying to avoid attracting “financial advisor” bots, though that might not work.)

  1. It’s definitely tough to find examples of everyday working-class people striking it rich in the stock market, especially if you’re comparing it to the big gains made by someone with substantial initial capital. The story of the guy who invested in Nvidia is an interesting one, but as you noted, he already had significant assets to work with.

In my experience, while there are instances of working-class individuals achieving financial success through stock investments, they often involve a combination of factors: time, research, patience, and sometimes a bit of luck. Investing in the right company at the right time can lead to huge gains, but that’s not as common for those starting with smaller amounts of capital.

Many working-class investors focus on consistent contributions to retirement accounts or dividend-paying stocks, which can build wealth over time but may not lead to “life-changing” money in a short span. I’ve seen some clients grow their investments significantly, but it typically takes years of steady investing and is more about gradual wealth accumulation than instant success.

What stands out in these conversations is the importance of financial literacy and understanding risk. Not everyone has the inclination or knowledge to invest wisely, which can result in missed opportunities or losses. Overall, while there are stories of success, they often represent a combination of favorable circumstances rather than a standard outcome for most working-class investors.
