First year grad when apply for internships?

When should first-year grad students start applying for internships?

I’m returning to school to earn my master’s in Accounting, but my experience so far is limited to my background in banking after graduating with a finance degree. I’d love to know the ideal timeline for seeking internships. Any advice?

  1. It’s great that you’re pursuing a master’s in Accounting! Generally, it’s a good idea to start looking for internships after your first semester. This will give you a sense of what you’re learning and how it applies to potential internships.

Here are some tips to help you navigate the process:

    1. Timing: Many companies recruit interns during the fall for summer internships. Start your application process in late summer or early fall, but keep an eye out for any spring internships as well.

    2. Networking: Attend career fairs, networking events, and connect with professors and alumni. Building relationships can provide valuable insights and opportunities.

    3. Resume and Skills: Tailor your resume to highlight your finance background and any Accounting coursework or skills you start acquiring during your master’s program.

    4. Job Portals: Check out university career services, job boards, LinkedIn, and company websites often.

    5. Consider Various Roles: Don’t just limit yourself to traditional Accounting firms. Look into internships in areas like financial analysis, tax preparation, and auditing.

Start preparing early, and don’t hesitate to apply even if you feel underqualified. Good luck!
