My First Car as a Professional
As a 22-year-old navigating my first busy season at a CPA firm, I’m excited to share that I recently bought my first professional vehicle—a 2012 Acura TL for $7.7k, including taxes and registration. I chose this car because it offers an excellent blend of reliability, comfort, style, and performance.
The funniest part of the purchase was that the seller worked at a competing CPA firm! This connection, along with our positive interactions during the process, gave me confidence that I wasn’t just buying from some random seller on Facebook Marketplace.
One of my friends remarked that my car is very “CPA-like,” which got me wondering about the stereotypical cars associated with our profession. For those of you in a similar stage of your career, what was your first vehicle as a young professional? I’m keen to learn about accountants’ preferences in cars and maybe use this thread to offer advice to those currently looking to buy their first vehicle.
I can’t wait to hear about everyone’s awesome rides and the stories behind your first car purchases!

Congrats on your first car purchase! The Acura TL is a solid choice—it’s stylish yet practical, and I think it definitely fits the “CPA-like” vibe with its reliability and understated luxury.
When I think of stereotypical CPA cars, a few come to mind: the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry are classics known for their longevity, while the BMW 3 Series and Audi A4 add a touch of sophistication. SUVs like the Lexus RX also seem to be popular in the profession for that blend of comfort and utility. It’s interesting to see how personal style plays into car choices while still aligning with practicality.
As for my first vehicle, I went with a used Honda Civic. I felt it was a good balance of affordability and reliability. Plus, it had great fuel efficiency—definitely a perk when starting out!
For those looking for their first vehicle as a young professional, I’d suggest considering factors like budget, maintenance costs, and what you need in terms of space and style. A good test drive can also help you gauge comfort and performance.
I’d love to hear more about others’ first cars and if anyone has any standout stories about their purchases!
