Exploring a finance Career After Completing a Tier 2/2.5 B-School
Hi everyone! I’m a 20-year-old male from India, and I’ll be finishing my bachelor’s degree in Sports Management this year. I’m considering a switch to finance, and the top business schools I can apply to are mostly Tier 2 and 2.5.
Unfortunately, I don’t have the option to repeat my studies. If I complete an MBA in finance and later pursue another MBA, what career opportunities might be available to me? Am I realistically looking at a chance to enter the hedge fund industry?
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Making a switch from sports management to finance is definitely feasible, and pursuing an MBA in finance can open various doors for you. While your current educational background may not be finance-specific, many employers are looking for diverse experiences and transferable skills. Here are some insights on your questions:
As you gain experience, you could move into management positions or even specialized roles like portfolio management, equity research, or strategic finance.
Pursuing a Second MBA: If you decide to pursue a second MBA later on, it can provide further specialization or a shift in focus (for example, from finance to entrepreneurship or another vertical). However, gaining work experience after your first MBA before pursuing a second one can often be more beneficial. It allows you to apply practical knowledge while enhancing your resume.
Getting into Hedge Funds: Landing a role at a hedge fund can be competitive, especially coming from a tier 2/2.5 business school. However, it’s not impossible. Here are some steps to increase your chances:
Ultimately, success in finance largely depends on your skills, determination, and networking. Be proactive in seeking opportunities and building your knowledge base. Good luck with your transition!
