Finally a member, happy to answer questions

Happy to Help as a New Member!

Hey everyone,

I’m back on the sub after finding it incredibly helpful while I was studying for my qualification. I’m here to answer any questions you might have about:

  • Work experience and salaries in the UK
  • The older exams (SBL, SBR, AFM, APM) for quick chats
  • Old EPSM format
  • Balancing work, life, and study (I definitely faced some challenges here)
  • My experience with recruiters in the UK

This community has been a fantastic source of support—it helped me feel less isolated during my studies. While I had friends also pursuing ACCA, we were all at different stages and tackling various exams, so our ability to help each other was somewhat limited.

If you’re struggling with a particular concept, I highly recommend checking out YouTube. I watched a ton of OpenTuition videos that really aided my understanding and helped me pass all five of my exams on the first attempt.

For SBR, I found BDO’s overview of regulations particularly useful during revision. The Strategic Professional exams often require a nuanced approach—it’s all about being precise and tactful in your responses.

Practicing a lot of exam questions can make a big difference. I initially used Kaplan for study support, but I found FirstIntuition to fit my learning style better. Building a consistent study routine is key, even if it feels monotonous at times—mixing things up can help keep it engaging. Covering a broad range of the syllabus is usually more beneficial than focusing too narrowly on one area. Remember, you only need a score of 50 to pass, and I haven’t encountered employers who pay much attention to individual exam scores.

Here are my scores: AA 55 | SBL 53 | SBR 74 | APM 63 | AFM 53

Cheers!
