filed/accepted 2/3. 2/10 got code 151 on WMR & Codes 766, 810 & 420 all n that order. I don’t have a code 971 & no notice received. I need to fix something but since I have code 420 & no notice yet I was wondering do I wait until I get my notice regarding 420 or can I go ahead and amend right now?

I filed and had my tax return accepted on February 3rd. On February 10th, I saw code 151 on the Where’s My Refund page, along with codes 766, 810, and 420 in that order. I haven’t received a notice or a code 971. I need to address an issue, but since I have code 420 and no notice at this time, should I wait for the notice related to code 420, or can I proceed with my amendment now?

  1. It’s understandable to want to address any issues with your tax return as soon as possible. If you have a Code 420 and have not yet received a notice, it’s usually recommended to wait for the IRS to provide clarification before you file an amendment. The Code 420 generally means they are processing your return and may be reviewing it for certain discrepancies or issues.

Amending your return too early could complicate things further if the IRS is still processing your initial submission. It’s best to wait for any official correspondence from the IRS regarding the 420 code. Once you receive the notice and understand what needs to be fixed, you can then proceed with amending your return if necessary.

If you have concerns or believe the matter is urgent, consider contacting the IRS directly for guidance. They may be able to provide more specific information regarding your situation.
