I filed my return on February 3rd and it was accepted the same day. On February 10th, I checked the Where’s My Refund tool and saw code 151, along with codes 766, 810, and 420, in that order. I haven’t received any notice or a code 971. I need to make some corrections, but since I have code 420 and haven’t received my notice yet, should I wait for it before making any amendments, or can I go ahead and amend my return now?

It sounds like you’re dealing with a tax situation that involves some specific codes. Code 151 generally indicates that your return is being reviewed, while codes 766, 810, and 420 relate to adjustments or refunds. Since you’re not seeing a code 971, which typically indicates a specific action required or communication from the IRS, it’s understandable that you might be feeling uncertain.
If you’re looking to amend your return due to the code 420, it might be wise to wait for the notice before proceeding. The notice will give you important details about what specifically needs to be fixed and can help ensure that your amendment addresses the correct issue. Additionally, amending without fully understanding the circumstances could complicate your situation further.
However, if it’s urgent and you feel confident about the corrections you need to make, it may be possible to proceed with the amendment. Just make sure to document everything thoroughly, as you will need to provide a clear explanation for your changes.
