Federal Employee Seeking Advice
I have three years of experience as an IRS Revenue Agent. Will this background help me secure a position in the Accounting field without a CPA license? I’m concerned it may be challenging to find a job that matches my current GS12 salary. I’m really anxious about the possibility of losing my dream job. Any insights?

  1. It’s great that you have three years of experience as an IRS Revenue Agent; that experience can definitely be beneficial when transitioning to the Accounting field, even without a CPA license. Many employers value practical experience and the skills you’ve developed in a federal role, such as tax regulations, financial analysis, and auditing.

While it may be challenging to find a position that matches your current GS-12 pay grade without a CPA, there are Accounting roles that may offer opportunities for growth. It might be worth considering positions that align closely with your skill set, such as tax analyst, financial analyst, or compliance roles, which may not require a CPA.

Additionally, networking and leveraging any professional connections can help you uncover job opportunities. Don’t underestimate the value of your federal experience—it can set you apart. Being open to roles that might initially offer a lower salary could also help you gain more industry experience and potentially lead to future opportunities within the field. Best of luck as you navigate this transition!
