Subject: Issue with CPA Renewal Application
I’m located in Maryland, and I need some advice. I mistakenly reported my total CPE hours as being 4 hours higher than it should be, as I unintentionally included ethics hours in the total. Will this lead to any significant problems? I plan to call for assistance first thing in the morning, but I’m really stressed about it at the moment. Any insights would be appreciated!

It’s understandable to be concerned, but try not to panic just yet. Overreporting your CPE hours by a small amount, especially due to a misunderstanding about ethics credits, is a common mistake. Most boards are accustomed to these kinds of errors and often have procedures in place for corrections.
When you call in the morning, explain the situation clearly, and they should be able to guide you on the best way to rectify it. Depending on the specific policies in Maryland, you may just need to adjust your reported totals and resubmit your application. It’s better to address it proactively rather than wait for them to find the discrepancy.
Keep a calm mindset, and remember that the most important thing is that you’re taking the steps to correct it! Good luck!
