Entry level under CPA supervision

Entry-Level Positions Under CPA Supervision

Has anyone come across any entry-level Accounting or Accounts Receivable/Accounts Payable positions that offer direct supervision by a CPA?

I’m currently seeking to fulfill the experience requirement for my CPA license and I’m curious if it’s realistic to believe that A/P or A/R roles could provide direct oversight from a CPA. Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

  1. It’s definitely not delusional to seek an entry-level position in accounts receivable (A/R) or accounts payable (A/P) that is supervised by a CPA. Many CPA firms or Accounting departments do have roles where entry-level staff work directly under the supervision of CPAs, especially in smaller firms where the structure is less hierarchical.

While A/R or A/P positions are typically seen as more transactional and may not always require CPA oversight, some firms appreciate having entry-level employees work closely with CPAs for training and mentorship purposes. This could provide you with the experience you need and also enhance your understanding of the Accounting process.

Here are a few suggestions to increase your chances:

    1. Network: Reach out to local CPA firms or Accounting departments and inquire about entry-level positions that have CPA supervision. Networking can help you find openings that may not be widely advertised.

    2. Consider Internships: Internships, even unpaid ones, can sometimes lead to full-time positions and may provide the supervision needed to fulfill CPA experience requirements.

    3. Be Open to Various Roles: While you may focus on A/R or A/P, consider other entry-level accounting roles that might offer the supervision you need. For example, roles in tax preparation or Audit may provide valuable experience under a CPA.

    4. Utilize Job Boards: Look on job boards and company websites where firms indicate their commitment to training and mentoring young professionals, particularly those pursuing CPA licenses.

    5. Talk to Your School’s Career Services: If you’re currently in school or a recent graduate, your school’s career services may have connections with firms looking for entry-level talent.

Keep pushing forward, and good luck! There are definitely opportunities out there for you.
