DR-840 Florida Sales Tax Audit

Subject: DR-840 Florida Sales Tax Audit – Clarification Needed

Hello everyone,

I’ve recently received a letter indicating that a Sales Tax Audit is set to begin in 60 days. They have requested that I prepare the records and books from the past three years. My question is: If I discover any mistakes in my sales records during this 60-day period, am I allowed to amend them?

Thank you!

  1. Hello,

Yes, during the 60 days before your sales tax Audit begins, you can certainly review your records and identify any mistakes. If you find discrepancies or errors in your sales tax filings from the past 3 years, it’s advisable to correct them before the Audit takes place.

You can file amended returns for the periods in question to report the correct amounts. This not only helps you ensure accuracy in your records but can also demonstrate good faith to the auditors, as you’ll be showing that you’re proactive about compliance.

Make sure to keep documentation of any changes you make and any amended returns you file, as you may be asked to provide this information during the Audit. If you’re unsure about the process or the implications of any corrections, consulting with a tax professional or accountant might be beneficial.

    Good luck with the audit!
