Did I screw myself out of getting a job?

Title: Have I Missed Out on Job Opportunities?

I graduated college with a 3.5 GPA and focused on side hustles and Amazon businesses instead of pursuing internships. After graduation, I worked on a solo crypto research project that received some press attention. However, I’m not sure if traditional finance jobs would value this experience. I made $300k trading crypto but recently decided to pull out.

Now that I’m done with my entrepreneurial ventures, what are my chances of transitioning into an entry-level role in finance given my background and the current market? Should I consider investing the money I’ve made in obtaining a masters degree?

  1. Answer:

First of all, congratulations on your successful entrepreneurial ventures and making profits from trading crypto. Your achievements show that you are talented and capable of taking risks and succeeding in the business world.

That being said, transitioning into an entry-level role in finance may be a bit challenging given your non-traditional background. However, it’s definitely not impossible. Here are some steps you can take to improve your chances:

    1. Networking: Networking is key in the finance industry. Reach out to professionals in the field, attend finance-related events, and connect with alumni from your college who are working in finance. These connections can potentially help you get your foot in the door for an entry-level role.

    2. Skill development: Take advantage of online courses or certifications in finance to enhance your knowledge and skills. This will show potential employers that you are serious about transitioning into the field.

    3. Internships or entry-level positions: Consider applying for internships or entry-level positions in finance to gain practical experience and learn more about the industry. These roles can also help you build a network and prove your commitment to a career in finance.

    4. Consider a master’s degree: While a master’s degree can definitely enhance your qualifications, it’s important to weigh the cost and benefits. If you do decide to pursue a master’s degree, consider programs that offer opportunities for real-world experience or internships.

Overall, it’s important to stay positive and motivated in your job search. Your achievements in entrepreneurship and crypto trading showcase your ability to take risks and succeed, which are valuable qualities in the finance industry. With the right approach and determination, you can definitely increase your odds of transitioning into a role in finance.
