Currently studying ACA in my audit job…

I’m currently pursuing my ACA qualification while working in Audit. If my goal is to become an accountant at a small firm in the future, will the ACA be beneficial for that? Or should I consider another course to prepare for that role?

  1. The ACA qualification is highly recognized and respected in the Accounting profession, and it will certainly be beneficial if you want to work as an accountant for a small firm. The skills and knowledge you gain from the ACA—such as financial reporting, auditing, taxation, and business strategy—are relevant and applicable to small firms.

In many cases, you won’t need to study another course specifically to transition to a small firm, as your ACA will provide a strong foundation. However, working in a small firm may require a different set of skills, such as hands-on experience with Bookkeeping, management accounts, and client relationships. If you lack experience in these areas, consider seeking opportunities to gain that practical exposure, as well as networking within the small firm environment.

Ultimately, your ACA will definitely be an asset, and any additional knowledge or experience you can provide in areas relevant to small firms will only strengthen your ability to succeed in that setting.
