CPA Requirement Question

Question About CPA Requirements

Good Afternoon,

I have a question regarding CPA requirements for my industry job. If I’m not working directly under a CPA, can a CPA who serves on the board review and sign off on my work? Or must it be someone I work directly with? Thank you!

  1. Good Afternoon!

In most jurisdictions, the requirement for a CPA to sign off on your work typically mandates that the CPA must be directly supervising you or your work. While it might seem convenient for a CPA on a board to sign off, it’s essential to ensure that the CPA is adequately familiar with your work and can attest to its accuracy and compliance with standards.

I recommend reviewing your state’s specific CPA licensing requirements or consulting with your state board of accountancy for clarification. It’s also a good idea to discuss your situation with your employer or your direct supervisor to understand the best course of action. Good luck!
