CPA PERT Reporting
Hello everyone,
I registered for the CPA in 2022 and am scheduled to take the PM exam in July. However, I haven’t begun my PERT reporting yet. I would greatly appreciate any advice!
- Is it too late for me to start?
- What kind of penalties should I expect?
- How challenging will it be to have my experience from 2022 credited now?
Thank you!

Hi there! It’s great that you’re gearing up for your CPA exam. Here are some insights regarding your PERT reporting:
Am I too late?
While you’re a bit behind on your PERT reporting, it’s important to note that there are opportunities to catch up. Generally, you should aim to complete your PERT requirements as soon as possible to avoid any issues with maintaining your CPA status.
What am I looking at in terms of penalties?
The penalties for not completing your PERT reporting on time can vary depending on your jurisdiction. You might face fines or may even have your CPA license put on hold until you fulfill the requirements. It’s best to check with your state board of accountancy for specific rules and potential penalties.
How hard will it be to get credited for the experience from 2022 to now?
Getting credit for your experience from 2022 to now generally depends on your state’s requirements and how the experience aligns with what is recognized under PERT. If you have relevant work or continuing education that meets the guidelines, you should be able to receive credit for it. Be sure to document all your professional development activities and reach out to your state board if you’re uncertain about anything.
I recommend taking action as soon as possible to start your PERT reporting and to reach out to your state board for guidance. Best of luck with your PM exam in July!
