Coworkers ask me why I don’t have a car, and my response is “to be eco-friendly”. Real answer: to save as much money as possible so I can buy my freedom via launching my own firm and ensure being forever remote. None of this hybrid nonsense.

Embracing Freedom: The Journey to Remote Work and CPA Credentials

In recent conversations with colleagues, I’ve often been asked why I choose not to own a car. My typical response highlights my commitment to environmental sustainability. Yet, if I’m being entirely honest, there’s a deeper motivation driving this decision: a quest for financial freedom. By living without a car, I’m able to save significantly, all while pursuing my ultimate goal of launching my own business and enjoying a fully remote lifestyle. The idea of a hybrid work model simply doesn’t resonate with me.

As I continue my journey to becoming a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), I’ve learned a valuable lesson: taking the initiative to steer my career allows me to achieve preferable outcomes, rather than forcing results through usual channels. The empowerment I feel when applying for positions that explicitly seek a CPA is invigorating. I no longer have to prove my worth or justify my capabilities; my credentials speak for themselves.

What’s more, I’ve come to realize that traditional employment often serves as an unnecessary intermediary. Rather than persuading skeptical employers of my effectiveness as a remote worker, I have the opportunity to forge direct relationships with clients. This shifts the focus from a rigid employer-employee dynamic to a more liberated exchange of value from my home office.

Ultimately, this journey is about more than just financial independence; it’s about crafting a career that aligns with my values and goals. By becoming a CPA and embracing the freedom that comes with self-employment, I’m not just choosing work; I’m choosing a lifestyle that prioritizes both personal fulfillment and professional satisfaction.
