Coworkers ask me why I don’t have a car, and my response is “to be eco-friendly”. Real answer: to save as much money as possible so I can buy my freedom via launching my own firm and ensure being forever remote. None of this hybrid nonsense.

Embracing Freedom: My Journey as a Remote CPA

In conversations with colleagues, I often find myself fielding the question, “Why don’t you have a car?” My go-to reply is that my choice is all about being eco-conscious. However, the truth goes deeper: I’m consciously working to save money so I can invest in my own freedom by launching my own business. My ultimate goal is a fully remote lifestyle—no more of the hybrid workplace that doesn’t suit my aspirations.

Becoming a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) has been a transformative experience. It has taught me that when I take the initiative to steer my career, I can achieve outcomes that are much more aligned with my goals. Instead of desperately trying to fit myself into roles that don’t resonate with me, I find immense satisfaction in applying for positions specifically marked as “CPA required” or “CPA preferred.” The best part? I no longer need to convince anyone of my worth; I simply enjoy the confidence that comes with being a credentialed professional.

One of the most liberating aspects of my journey toward remote work is the ability to bypass traditional employment structures. Rather than convincing skeptical employers of my effectiveness in a remote environment, I can focus on delivering quality service directly to my clients from the comfort of my home. This approach eliminates the middleman—often representing outdated systems that can stifle productivity and creativity.

In redefining my career path, I’ve found that the flexibility and freedom of remote work allow me to become not only a better CPA but also a more fulfilled individual. The journey continues, and I’m excited to see where it leads.
