Coworkers ask me why I don’t have a car, and my response is “to be eco-friendly”. Real answer: to save as much money as possible so I can buy my freedom via launching my own firm and ensure being forever remote. None of this hybrid nonsense.

Embracing Freedom: The Journey to Remote Work and Self-Employment

In conversations with my colleagues, I’m often asked why I’ve chosen not to own a car. My typical response highlights my commitment to an eco-friendly lifestyle. However, the deeper truth lies in my pursuit of financial independence and the ability to operate my own firm, all while enjoying the perks of remote work—no more hybrid models for me.

My journey to becoming a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) has underscored a significant lesson: taking control of my career leads to much more favorable outcomes than attempting to fit into someone else’s mold. The liberation I feel when applying for roles labeled “CPA required” or “CPA preferred” is invigorating. There’s no need for me to convince potential employers of my capabilities. I am qualified, and I embody the expertise that these roles demand.

Gone are the days when I felt compelled to justify my abilities to employers regarding remote work. Rather than persuading companies that my productivity flourishes outside of a traditional office setting, I’m now able to streamline my efforts and deliver value directly to clients from the comfort of my own home. This shift not only enhances my output but also brings a newfound sense of satisfaction to my professional life.

Choosing this path has empowered me to focus on what truly matters: building a career that aligns with my values and aspirations. As I continue on this journey of self-employment and remote work, I’m excited about the freedom it brings—not just to my wallet, but to my work-life balance overall.
