Coworkers ask me why I don’t have a car, and my response is “to be eco-friendly”. Real answer: to save as much money as possible so I can buy my freedom via launching my own firm and ensure being forever remote. None of this hybrid nonsense.

Embracing Freedom: My Journey Toward Remote Work as a CPA

As a professional navigating the complexities of the modern workplace, I often encounter a common question from my coworkers: “Why don’t you own a car?” To which I typically respond with a nod to environmental consciousness. However, the truth runs deeper; my choice is driven by a desire for financial independence and the ambition to launch my own firm, granting me the freedom to work remotely without the constraints of traditional employment structures.

Embarking on my journey to become a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) has opened my eyes to the power of taking initiative in my career. It’s empowering to recognize that by actively shaping my path, I can achieve significantly better outcomes than if I merely awaited opportunities to present themselves. When I apply for positions that require or prefer a CPA designation, I walk in with the confidence of knowing my qualifications speak for themselves. I have become what I aimed to achieve.

Rather than spending my time convincing skeptical employers of my remote work capabilities, I’ve chosen to redefine my approach. Eliminating the middleman—what many would consider an employer—frees me to provide value directly to my clients from the comfort of my own home. This shift not only enhances my productivity but also fosters a better work-life balance, allowing me to focus on what truly matters: delivering exceptional service without the bounds of traditional office expectations.

In essence, my journey is about embracing autonomy and finding fulfillment in a career that aligns with my values and aspirations. As I embark on this new chapter, I am excited about the opportunities that lay ahead and the freedom to choose how I work.
