Embracing Freedom: Why I Chose a Car-Free Lifestyle

At work, I often find myself fielding the same question from my colleagues: “Why don’t you have a car?” My typical answer is that I’m committed to being eco-friendly. Yet, the truth is even simpler and more personal: I’m keen on saving money so that I can one day launch my own business and enjoy the bliss of fully remote work—no hybrid models for me.

Becoming a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) was a pivotal moment in my journey. It taught me the importance of taking control of my professional life. By actively pursuing my career goals rather than waiting for circumstances to align perfectly, I’ve found the outcomes are much more favorable. Now, when I apply for positions that require a CPA designation, I do so with confidence; I no longer have to persuade anyone of my worth—my credentials speak for themselves.

In today’s work environment, many employers cling to outdated models, convinced that in-office presence translates to productivity. However, I believe that the best way to prove my capabilities is by eliminating the middleman—my employer. Instead, I can deliver exceptional value directly to my clients from the comfort of my home.

This choice has empowered me to craft a life aligned with my values, allowing me to prioritize my financial goals while working towards the ultimate freedom of entrepreneurship. So, the answer to why I don’t drive is more than just an environmental stance; it’s a strategic decision to shape my future.
