Update on My Transition
I finally made the decision! The day my doctor informed me that my biopsy results were normal, I let my boss know that I plan to retire in under two months. Now, I’m busy creating detailed instruction manuals for all my tasks. It’s surprising how exhausting it is to put together ten to twenty pages of step-by-step guides, especially with all the screenshots!
I’ll be working part-time until the end of the first budget cycle to assist with tasks like preparing and balancing budget documents. I’ll be in the office on a flexible schedule, enjoying my morning coffee on weekdays—which should feel quite unusual! I even have a bit of travel planned during this time.
After I leave in July, my boss inquired if I could assist with a software transition. I reminded her that, due to legal restrictions, I won’t be able to work for six months post-retirement. However, I’d be happy to lend a hand once that period is over.

Congratulations on your decision to retire! It sounds like you’ve made a thoughtful choice, especially after receiving such positive news about your health. Writing those manuals must be quite the task, but it’s great that you’re creating a resource for your team.
Transitioning to part-time work sounds like a smooth way to ease into retirement. Enjoying your coffee on a weekday and having some travel lined up is certainly a wonderful way to mark this new chapter. And it’s nice to hear that you’re open to helping with the software transition once the time is right. Wishing you all the best as you embark on this exciting journey ahead!
