Chances of breaking in as an Ukrainian refugee in London

Navigating Job Opportunities in London as a Ukrainian Refugee

Hello everyone,

I am preparing to relocate to London in May under the Homes for Ukraine initiative, and I’m keen to gauge my prospects for securing an office-related position, particularly in the finance sector.

Currently, I have one year remaining to complete my bachelor’s degree from my university in Ukraine. Following that, I plan to pursue a master’s degree in the UK. I recognize that attending a Ukrainian university may put me at a disadvantage in the job market, even though my institution is considered reputable within Ukraine. Transferring to a UK university would involve over two years of education and substantial financial investment without the guarantee of attending a well-regarded institution, especially since I missed the January application deadline. Therefore, the most viable option for me is to finish my bachelor’s degree remotely from my current university.

I am eager to start working as soon as I arrive and would greatly appreciate any guidance you can provide. I am open to various opportunities, including internships, apprenticeships, or entry-level positions, and I am confident in my ability to manage a full-time job alongside my studies.

My resume highlights that I have completed two levels of the CFA Program and possess some professional experience, but I am aware that this might not be enough to stand out in the competitive London job market.

Any insights on how to navigate my next steps would be invaluable, and I welcome any realistic expectations regarding my situation.

Thank you for your support!

P.S. I understand the challenges that the job market presents, particularly in the UK. Nonetheless, I have a work permit associated with my visa, so I won’t require employer sponsorship.
