[Canada] Ontario: Quick Question about CPA EVR Process
If I submit my EVR work experience report today and my manager signs off and sends it to CPA, can I resign tomorrow without any issues? Honestly, I would have left my job already if it weren’t for the stress surrounding the CPA EVR process, as I haven’t started reporting yet.
As mentioned, could there be complications if the CPA takes 1-3 months to review the report and provide feedback? What happens if they reject it and I need to redo the entire thing? If that situation arises, how could I possibly do that after I’ve left my job?
I’ve also heard about a “final report sign-off” when changing jobs. What does this involve, and what if my manager refuses to sign because they’re upset about my resignation? Just so you know, my manager is not a CPA, so I can’t raise concerns with the CPA.
In this instance, would I simply send the form to my manager after “tomorrow” and then start reporting for my new job without any problems?
Bonus question: Where can I find the necessary reports? I recently created a CPA portal account and am in the early stages of reporting, so I’m unsure where to access all the information.

It sounds like you’re dealing with a lot of uncertainty regarding your CPA application and the timelines involved. Let me address your questions and concerns:
Submitting EVR and Resigning: If you submit your EVR work experience report today and your manager signs off on it before you resign tomorrow, you should be fine in terms of having submitted your report. However, keep in mind that it’s generally advisable to maintain a good relationship with your employer when transitioning.
Review Timeline: The CPA may take 1-3 months to review your report. If it’s rejected, they typically provide feedback as to why, and you’ll need to address those points before resubmitting. If you’ve already left your job, you won’t have direct access to your previous manager to help with any needed clarifications. It might be a good idea to keep communication open with your manager even after you’ve resigned, just in case you need any further information for the report.
Final Report Sign-Off: The “final report sign-off” often refers to a confirmation from your manager stating that they’ve reviewed and verified your work experience as being completed according to CPA standards. If your manager is not willing to sign off because of your resignation, this could create an issue. You might consider discussing your intention to leave with them beforehand and trying to maintain a positive rapport.
Form Submission: Yes, you would typically send the form to your manager once you get the okay from the CPA on your experience. Just make sure there are no loose ends at your current job that could complicate your reporting process with your new employer.
Finding Reports: For accessing the reports, the CPA website has resources available once you log into your PERT account. You should be able to find both the EVR form and any relevant guidelines there. Also, consider checking out the CPA website’s “Resources” or “Forms” section for further details.
It’s completely normal to be anxious about this process, and it’s important to ensure you leave your current job on good terms. Good luck with your CPA journey!
