Facing the CPA Exam: Countdown to Attempt Three
As the clock ticks down to my third attempt at the CPA exam, I find myself grappling with a whirlwind of emotions. In just two days, I’ll be sitting for what feels like an eternal test. Let me take you through my journey so far.
My Journey So Far
During my first attempt, I managed to pass Day 1, but unfortunately, I fell short on the Level 1 Sufficiency requirements for Days 2 and 3, landing at Level 7. My second attempt saw a similar outcome, where I once again struggled with Level 1 Sufficiency, resulting in a Level 2. I had tried to prepare with the Densmore resource, but it didn’t yield the results I had hoped for.
As for my third attempt? Well, who really knows what to expect.
Just Looking for Closure
Truthfully, part of me is just eager to put this chapter behind me, whether that means passing or failing. I long to reclaim my life after this exam is over. Envisioning a future where I can throw away my notes and textbooks feels liberating. If I don’t succeed this time, I know I’ll feel the impact, especially within my circle of friends and family. However, I’m confident that time will heal those wounds. There are plenty of paths I could take beyond the CPA—options such as pursuing an MBA or a master’s in a different field. Life and opportunities extend far beyond just this designation.
Let’s be honest: I’ve never been passionate about this line of work. Sure, I can tolerate it, but calling it thrilling would be a stretch. It often feels mundane and tedious, lacking any sparks of excitement.
The Mixed Bag of Emotions
Should I pass, it would certainly feel rewarding to celebrate that achievement. Bragging rights? Absolutely! It would serve as a validation of my efforts, but honestly, the CPA designation itself doesn’t hold the same weight for me as it once did. The way this certification has been administered post-amalgamation tarnishes its reputation in my eyes.
For me, a CPA is simply a means to better financial prospects—not a hallmark of personal excellence. My experience has shown me that the value of this designation is a mixed bag, leaning more toward the less favorable side.
