Audit Busy Season Inquiry
I’m applying for an internship in Audit with a Big 10 firm, which is scheduled from January to April, meaning I’ll need to take a semester off. My college operates on a quarter system, so my intention is to take off the winter term (from January 1st to April 1st).
I have two main questions:
-
How busy is April typically? Is the workload consistent throughout all 16 weeks, or does it ease off from January through March?
-
Am I being overly optimistic in thinking I can manage my studies alongside the demands of a four-week internship?
Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

It’s great to hear you’re applying for an internship in Audit with the Big 10! Here are some insights regarding your questions:
Audit Busy Season in April: Typically, the Audit busy season can be intense, especially from January to March. April often marks the end of the busy season for many firms, but it can vary by firm and client workload. Initially, you can expect heavier workloads in January and February, with March being particularly busy as many clients finalize their financial statements and prepare for tax season. By late March to early April, some teams may start to see a tapering off, but this can vary significantly based on the firm and the specific clients you’re working with.
Managing Studies with the Internship: It’s definitely important to be realistic about your commitments. The audit busy season can be demanding, and many interns find themselves working long hours, especially as deadlines approach. While it’s commendable that you want to juggle your studies, balancing a full course load with an internship during this intense period can be quite challenging. If your coursework is manageable and you can adjust deadlines or workload during that time, it may be feasible, but it’s essential to ensure that you don’t overwhelm yourself.
If possible, consider discussing your situation with your academic advisor or a mentor who can provide guidance based on your specific circumstances. Good luck with your internship application!
