AP Role crashcourse

Crash Course for AP Role
I have an interview coming up for an Accounts Payable position at an international logistics company, and I could really use some help to secure this job! 😅

A bit about me:
– I recently relocated to a new country and face a significant language barrier. I’ve been working tirelessly to find a job but haven’t had much luck yet. I’m juggling part-time jobs while also learning the language.
– My background is in general administration (communications, events, etc.) and legal, and I have no formal Accounting experience.
– I interviewed for an Accounts Receivable role with this company twice last year. The manager seemed to like me, but ultimately, her colleague chose a candidate with an Accounting background.
– They’ve reached out to me again and asked if I’m available to start immediately.
– I don’t want to jump to conclusions about a job offer, but I aim to go into this interview incredibly well-prepared.

If you have any tips or recommendations for short online courses I could take, I would greatly appreciate it! Thank you so much! <3

    2. What is Accounts Payable? Familiarize yourself with the basics of accounts payable, including terms like invoices, purchase orders, payment terms, and reconciliation.
    3. Processes: Understand the workflow of AP, from receiving an invoice to processing and making payments.

    4. Key Skills to Highlight:

    5. Organization: Talk about your administrative and organizational skills from your prior roles.
    6. Attention to Detail: Emphasize how your work in events and legal administration has developed your attention to detail, which is crucial in AP.
    7. Problem-Solving: Be prepared to discuss instances where you resolved issues or improved processes in your previous roles.

    8. Software Familiarity:

    9. Familiarize yourself with common Accounting Software and ERP systems that are commonly used in accounts payable (like SAP, Oracle, QuickBooks). There are many free tutorials available online.
    10. If time allows, consider taking a short course on a platform like Coursera, Udemy, or LinkedIn Learning for general Accounting principles or specific AP software.

    Interview Preparation

    1. Review Common Interview Questions:
    2. Be prepared to discuss why you want to transition to AP and how your skills are transferable.
    3. Prepare for situational questions (e.g., “How would you handle a discrepancy in an invoice?”).

    4. Show Enthusiasm:

    5. Make it clear that you are eager to learn and grow within the AP team. Express your passion for the logistics industry and how you can add value.

    6. Leverage Your Previous Interview:
