Am i too old?

Am I Too Late to Start?

I’m a 32-year-old male with a background in equity research and portfolio management from a South Asian country, and I’m also a CFA Charterholder in good standing. I recently moved to Canada and have begun networking with industry professionals through coffee meetings.

However, I’m starting to feel that I might be considered too old to pursue entry-level positions in equity research or roles in Investment Counseling.

Is 32 really too old to break into this industry? I would greatly appreciate any advice or insights from those with more experience. Thank you!

  1. You’re definitely not too old to enter the equity research or investment counsel industry! At 32, you have valuable experience and a CFA Charter, which many entry-level candidates might lack. Employers often look for candidates who not only have technical skills but also experience, and your background in equity research and portfolio management can be a strong asset.

In Canada, the job market can be competitive, but there is also a growing appreciation for diverse experiences and perspectives. Instead of focusing on your age, emphasize your expertise, educational qualifications, and unique insights from your previous roles. Networking through coffee chats, as you’re already doing, is a great way to build connections and learn more about the industry landscape.

Consider looking for roles that may leverage your existing skills rather than strictly dropping down to an entry-level position. There might be opportunities in mid-level roles or even internships that can help you pivot into the market.

In summary, keep pushing forward, remain confident in what you bring to the table, and continue to network. Your age is more of an advantage than a disadvantage in this case!
