Navigating an Accounting Career with ADHD
Hey Accounting club family,
I wanted to share a bit about my journey as I pursue my BBA in Accounting while living with ADHD-Inattentive type. In the past, my executive dysfunction made it tough to manage school, finances, and everyday tasks. Fortunately, medications have significantly helped me not just cope, but also excel in areas that once felt impossible. That said, I know that meds won’t resolve all my ADHD challenges.
I’m reaching out to hear from fellow accountants and accounting students who have navigated similar paths.
- How has ADHD influenced your career in accounting?
- What strategies or tools have you found most helpful for managing deadlines and tackling tough assignments?
- Are there certain areas within accounting, like Audit or tax, that you believe might be more accommodating for those of us with ADHD?
I’m really excited about the potential of a career in accounting, especially when it comes to analyzing cash flows and solving complex problems. However, I want to be realistic about the obstacles I might encounter along the way. Any insights or advice you can share would be greatly appreciated!
