Accounting Classes for finance Degree
Hello everyone! I’m currently pursuing my finance degree and I’m curious about the level of Accounting knowledge I should focus on to enhance my skills. Specifically, how relevant is Accounting in fields like banking or risk analysis? I’m only enrolled in the core accounting classes required for all business majors. Thank you in advance for your insights!

Hi! It’s great that you’re pursuing a finance degree! In terms of crossover knowledge between Accounting and finance, it’s definitely beneficial to have a solid understanding of Accounting principles, even if you’re only taking the core classes.
In banking, for example, you may need to analyze financial statements, assess creditworthiness, or evaluate investment opportunities, all of which require a good grasp of Accounting. In risk analysis, understanding the financial implications of risks and being able to read and interpret balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements is crucial.
While your core classes provide a solid foundation, consider delving deeper into topics like financial reporting, cost accounting, and managerial accounting if you have the opportunity. Additionally, practical experience through internships or projects can greatly enhance your understanding and proficiency.
Overall, a strong accounting background will not only support your finance studies but also make you more competitive in the job market. Good luck with your studies!
