Accounting Student – How do y’all do it?

Accounting Student – Seeking Your Advice!

Hi everyone! I’m currently a junior in college and I’m in the process of applying for internships for the winter and summer of 2026. With several major courses still ahead of me, I’m curious about how you all balance internships with a full course load (12 credit hours). I would love to hear your experiences and any tips you might have! I’m considering switching to fully online classes if I secure a winter internship; was that a challenging transition for any of you? Thank you in advance for your help!

  1. Hey there! It’s great that you’re already thinking about internships and how to balance everything. As a fellow Accounting student, I can definitely relate to your concerns. Here are some tips based on my experience:

    1. Time Management: Creating a schedule that includes both your internship hours and study time can be incredibly helpful. Use tools like calendars or productivity apps to block out time for classes, studying, and work. Prioritize your tasks and set realistic goals each week.

    2. Set Realistic Expectations: Internships can be demanding, so it’s important to recognize your limits. If you’re transitioning to fully online classes, make sure you feel comfortable with that format and can still engage with the material.

    3. Utilize Resources: Many colleges offer resources such as academic advisors, tutoring, and workshops on time management and study skills. Don’t hesitate to reach out for help if you need it!

    4. Stay Organized: Keep all your school materials and internship information well-organized. Use folders (physical or digital) and checklists to keep track of assignments and important deadlines related to both your courses and internship.

    5. Make the Most of Your Internship: Try to align your internship experience with your studies when possible. This can reinforce what you’re learning in class and make it easier to balance both.

    6. Take Breaks and Manage Stress: Balancing work and school can be overwhelming. Make sure to take regular breaks and find activities you enjoy outside of school and work to help manage stress.

    7. Communicate: If you find yourself struggling, don’t hesitate to communicate with your internship supervisor or professors. They may offer flexibility or understanding if you’re upfront about your situation.

Overall, it can be challenging to juggle an internship with a full course load, but with good organization and communication, it’s definitely doable. Best of luck with your internship applications and classes! You’ve got this!
