Advice for Securing an Accounting Internship
I plan to apply for tax internships in August, and while I have one D on my transcript (which is unrelated to Accounting or my major), I have maintained a GPA of around 3.5. I’ve also been actively networking and participating in organizations like Beta Alpha Psi and VITA. Considering this, do you think there’s a good chance for me to land an internship at a Big 4 firm?
One response
Absolutely, it’s possible for you to land a Big 4 internship! A 3.5 GPA is solid, and your involvement in networking and professional organizations like Beta Alpha Psi and VITA shows your commitment and initiative, which are highly valued by employers.
While having a D on your transcript might raise questions, it’s important to keep in mind that employers often look at the overall picture. You can address this in your cover letter or interviews by explaining the circumstances behind it and emphasizing how you’ve grown since then.
Focus on highlighting your strengths, such as your academic achievements in relevant courses, your networking efforts, and any relevant skills you’ve developed through clubs and internships. Tailor your resume and cover letter to reflect your passion for tax Accounting and your eagerness to learn. Consider reaching out to your network for mock interviews to practice discussing your experiences and qualifications confidently.
Stay positive and persistent—many candidates have overcome obstacles and secured internships with the Big 4. Best of luck with your applications!
