Accounting Internship Inquiry
I’ll be completing my Associate’s degree in Business this May and will be starting my Bachelor’s program in the fall. As I begin to search for internships, I’ve noticed some job postings for positions like Bookkeeping and junior accountant. Given my educational background, do you think it’s feasible for me to apply for these entry-level roles? I also have 5 years of experience in banking, though I’m unsure how relevant that is.
One response
Absolutely, your five years of banking experience can be a valuable asset as you transition into Accounting roles. Many employers look for candidates who have practical experience in finance, and your background in banking likely has provided you with a solid understanding of financial principles, customer service, and attention to detail—qualities that are crucial in both Bookkeeping and junior Accounting positions.
While an Accounting internship can provide you with specific skills and experiences directly related to accounting, applying for entry-level jobs like Bookkeeping or junior accountant positions is definitely a viable option. Make sure to highlight relevant skills from your banking experience, such as financial record keeping, compliance, and any software tools you may have used.
Additionally, mentioning your education progress and your motivation to further your accounting career can make your application even more appealing. Don’t hesitate to apply to positions that interest you; sometimes employers are willing to train motivated candidates. Good luck!
