A.A. in Accounting
Hi everyone! I’ve made the decision to return to community college from my university because I’m no longer interested in my current major. I plan to transition into Engineering eventually. However, I’m feeling unfulfilled in my job as a security officer, so I’ve chosen to pursue an Associate in Arts degree in Accounting. I anticipate completing it within two semesters, ideally by this fall, since I’ve already finished all my general education requirements and just need to focus on Accounting courses. After earning my degree, I intend to move on to pursue a bachelor’s in Engineering. I’m curious to know if this is the right path for me. I believe that Accounting will provide me with job security and financial stability, which will allow me to continue my passion for Engineering in the future.

It sounds like you’re making a thoughtful decision about your education and career path! Pursuing an Associate in Arts in Accounting can certainly provide you with a solid foundation in financial principles, and having that knowledge can be beneficial whether you continue directly in Accounting or transition to engineering later. Accounting can offer job stability and a good income, which might ease some financial pressures while you work towards your engineering degree.
Since you’ve already completed your general education requirements, focusing on accounting courses should allow you to complete the program quickly. Additionally, having a degree in accounting could be an asset in engineering, especially if you plan to manage projects or work in industries where budgeting and financial management play a role.
Make sure to keep assessing your interests in engineering as you go through your accounting program, as passions can evolve. It’s also a good idea to seek out internships or experiences in both fields to understand what you enjoy most. Overall, it seems like a pragmatic approach to ensure financial stability while you pursue your long-term goal in engineering. Best of luck with your studies and your future career!
