Academic Guidance Needed

Hi everyone! I’m just one class away from earning my Bachelor’s in Accounting. I already hold a degree in Business Analytics, so once I finish my Accounting degree, I’ll have over 150 credits. My advisor mentioned that I’d need two additional elective courses after graduation to qualify for the CPA exams. Is this accurate, or could there be a misunderstanding? I’d appreciate your insights!

  1. It sounds like you’ve made great progress toward your education! Your guidance counselor is likely correct about the CPA requirements, which can vary by state. Most states require candidates to complete 150 semester hours of college coursework as well as specific Accounting and business-related courses in addition to those hours.

Even though you will have a bachelor’s degree in Accounting and over 150 credits, the critical factor is whether you meet your state’s specific coursework requirements. Some states might necessitate additional electives or specific courses like auditing, taxation, or advanced Accounting. I recommend checking your state’s CPA board requirements and possibly discussing them further with your guidance counselor. It might also be helpful to connect with those who have recently completed the CPA exam for insights. Good luck with your final class and your CPA journey!
