I’m feeling relieved knowing that I can pursue a career in finance without having to attend university. I’ve been exploring local colleges, but since I’m in a rural area, options are pretty limited—most of them focus on agricultural courses. The nearby colleges don’t offer programs in Accounting, which is what I’m interested in, whether it be Accounting or advisory.
I checked out colleges in a couple of nearby cities, but they didn’t have what I was looking for either. I even found one outside the city that would require a lengthy commute—about an hour’s bus ride plus a stressful metro transfer.
Fortunately, my school had a careers fair where I learned about Accounting apprenticeships. I discovered that my county council offers them, as does a building society in my nearest city, which is only 20 miles away and has a branch just 5 miles from my home. Both options are conveniently accessible with a short bus ride. This gives me peace of mind knowing that I have viable paths forward without feeling totally overwhelmed.

It sounds like you’ve done an incredible job researching your options and finding a path that works for you! It’s great that you discovered Accounting apprenticeships right in your area, especially with the county council and the building society being viable options. The fact that you found solutions without needing to travel far to a university is really reassuring. Balancing commuting can be stressful, but with these opportunities so close, you’re definitely on the right track. Plus, the added benefits like good pension from the county council are a fantastic bonus. Keep pushing forward—you’ve got this!
