Seeking Advice
Hi everyone,
I’m planning to pursue my CPA in the future and am currently completing my master’s degree through distance learning. I have quite a bit of free time and, as I don’t have any work experience yet, I would love some suggestions on additional activities or short-term courses that could help me land my first job. I have completed my B.Com (H) from India.
Thank you all for your help!

Hello! It’s great to hear that you’re planning to pursue your CPA and are taking proactive steps by doing your master’s through distance learning. Here are some suggestions to help you make the most of your free time and enhance your career prospects:
Internships: Look for internships or part-time positions in Accounting firms or finance departments. Even unpaid internships can provide valuable experience and networking opportunities.
Certification Courses: Consider completing short-term courses related to Accounting and finance. Options might include:
Data Analytics in Accounting
Online Courses: Platforms like Coursera, Udemy, or LinkedIn Learning offer a variety of accounting and finance courses that can boost your resume.
Networking: Join professional accounting associations, attend webinars, and connect with professionals on platforms like LinkedIn. Networking can lead to job opportunities and valuable contacts in the industry.
Skills Development: Work on developing your soft skills, such as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving, which are highly valued in the workplace.
Part-time Jobs: Look for part-time jobs that are in any finance or business role, even if they are not directly related to accounting. This can help you gain experience and understand the business environment better.
Volunteer Work: Consider volunteering to manage the accounts for small non-profits or community organizations. This gives you practical experience while contributing to a cause.
CPA Preparation: Since you’re planning to pursue CPA, look into study groups or preparatory classes that may help you prepare better for the exams once you start.
By engaging in these activities, you’ll not only build your resume but also develop a network that can help you land your first job. Best of luck on your journey to becoming a CPA!
