[6.5 YoE] CV Review – Targeting Investment Banking / MBB in Saudi Arabia

[6.5 Years of Experience] CV Review – Targeting Investment Banking / MBB in Saudi Arabia

I am preparing to apply for roles in Investment Banking and MBB firms within Saudi Arabia, based on the following background:

  1. An engineering and STEM foundation, with experience in the petrochemical and steel sectors.

  2. Brief public-sector consulting experience with a boutique firm.

  3. Over two years of experience at a local aviation company, owned by the sovereign wealth fund, where I worked in the corporate development and strategy team. I reported directly to the VP of Strategy and indirectly to the CEO, gaining extensive experience in financial projects, including M&A, valuation, financial modeling, and FP&A support.

My goal is to secure a position in Investment Banking or MBB for approximately two years, with the intent to transition to an N-2 role in Strategy or finance at a local company thereafter.

  1. Your background in engineering and your experience in the petrochemicals and steel industries, along with your consulting stint and corporate development role in aviation, provide a solid foundation for targeting Investment Banking (IB) and Management Consulting (MBB) positions in Saudi Arabia. Here are a few tips to enhance your application and improve your chances:

    1. Highlight Relevant Experience: Emphasize your projects involving M&As, valuation, and financial modeling in your CV. Quantify your achievements where possible (e.g., “contributed to X% increase in efficiency or cost savings”).

    2. Networking: Leverage LinkedIn and your existing professional network to connect with current employees in your target firms (e.g., IB and MBB). Informational interviews can provide you insights and might lead to referrals.

    3. Tailor Your Application: Customize your CV and cover letter for each application. Focus on skills and experiences that align closely with the job descriptions.

    4. Skill Development: If you haven’t already, consider acquiring relevant certifications (e.g., CFA, Financial Modeling & Valuation Analyst – FMVA) that can bolster your finance-related credentials.

    5. Local Market Understanding: Stay updated on the local economic landscape, especially in industries relevant to IB and MBB in Saudi Arabia, as this will help you during interviews.

    6. Long-Term Vision: Your goal of transitioning to a local N-2 position in Strategy/finance is clear. Be prepared to articulate how the experiences you gain in IB or MBB will directly contribute to your future career aspirations.

Given the competitive nature of these fields, your diverse background is an asset that can set you apart. Best of luck with your applications!
