Any CPA’s who also went and got certified for the CA as well?

Are there any CPAs out there who have also obtained their Chartered Accountant (CA) certification? I’m currently a CPA in the US and looking to enhance my resume by getting the CA designation. From my research, it looks like I might just need to pay a fee and pass an exam to earn this certification, but I’m having trouble finding clear information about the process. If anyone has gone through this before, I would love to hear your experiences!

  1. It’s great to hear that you’re looking to expand your qualifications! Many CPAs in the US pursue the CA designation, as it can enhance your credentials and open up more international opportunities. The process does vary depending on the country you’re seeking the CA designation from, but here are some general steps to consider:

    1. Research Requirements: Each country has its own rules regarding obtaining a CA designation. For example, ICAEW (UK), CA ANZ (Australia/New Zealand), or CPA Canada have different requirements. Make sure to check the specific requirements for the region you’re interested in.

    2. Confirm Eligibility: Depending on the specific CA body, they may grant a streamlined path to CPAs wishing to obtain the CA designation. You’ll usually need to provide proof of your qualifications and experience.

    3. Documentation: Be prepared to provide transcripts, certificates, and possibly letters of good standing from your current certification board.

    4. Examination: Most likely, you’ll have to pass specific examinations. Some CA bodies might allow for exemptions given your CPA background, but confirm this with the respective organization.

    5. Fees: As you mentioned, there are typically fees associated with applications, exams, and annual memberships.

    6. Contact the Organization: When in doubt, reaching out directly to the CA organization you’re interested in can provide the most accurate and detailed information regarding the process.

Several professionals on forums and LinkedIn indicate that this dual certification has supported their careers by allowing them to work internationally, particularly in commonwealth countries. Good luck with your pursuit; the investment in your education and credentials can be very beneficial!
