Articleship or Job?
I’m currently preparing for my fourth attempt at the CA Intermediate exams in September 2025. I’m considering starting a job in the CA field to gain practical experience in Accounting and taxation. Frankly, I don’t want to spend another six months revisiting the same material.
(Why am I opting not to sit for the exams in May 2025? I’ve grown weary of the constant exams and would rather start earning money with the knowledge I already possess.)
If anyone else has faced similar circumstances or has taken this route before committing to an actual articleship, I would love to hear your thoughts. Do you think my decision to pursue a job is the right one?
Regarding my studies, I’ve completed my revision for Group 2 and am currently revising Group 1.

It sounds like you’re in a challenging but pivotal moment in your CA journey. Making the decision to start working instead of pursuing another attempt can have its pros and cons, and it ultimately depends on your personal circumstances and career goals.
Here are some points to consider:
Pros of Starting a Job:
Practical Experience: Getting hands-on experience in Accounting and taxation will not only enhance your knowledge but also make you more employable in the future.
Financial Independence: Earning money while you work can alleviate some financial stress and give you more freedom in your studies.
Real-World Application: Applying what you’ve learned in a practical setting can reinforce your knowledge and potentially make your studies more relevant.
Networking Opportunities: Working in the field can help you build professional relationships and networks that may benefit you in the long run.
Cons of Starting a Job:
Limited Study Time: Balancing work and study can be challenging, especially if you plan to continue pursuing your CA exams in the future.
Potential to Delay CA Completion: Working might sidetrack you from focusing solely on your CA inter and pushing through to completion.
Job Market Competition: Depending on your location, finding a suitable job in the CA field without a completed inter qualification might be more challenging.
Personal Reflection:
If you’ve thoroughly reviewed both groups and feel confident in your knowledge, finding a position that allows for a balance between work and study might be a reasonable compromise. Consider looking for roles that offer flexibility or part-time hours, allowing you to continue your studies while gaining experience.
If possible, speak with peers or mentors who have been in a similar situation. Their insights could provide valuable perspectives that help you make your decision.
Ultimately, your choice should align with your long-term goals, both personally and professionally. Best of luck with whatever decision you make!
