PER – Do I Need to Change Roles After Meeting All Performance Objectives?
I’ve been working for an ACCA Approved Employer (Gold) and am currently recording my PER. While I’ve met several relevant Performance Objectives, some are completely unrelated to the career path I envisioned. Does this mean I need to change roles to complete all objectives?
One response
Completing all Performance Objectives (POs) for the ACCA qualification does not necessarily mean you have to switch roles. The aim of the POs is to ensure you gain a broad range of skills and experiences, which can enhance your overall competency as a finance professional.
If you find that some POs are not aligned with your expected career path, you can focus on the ones that are most relevant to your goals. It’s important to have discussions with your supervisor or mentor about your career aspirations and how you can align your performance objectives with those aspirations. They might be able to provide guidance on how to achieve the necessary competencies without having to switch roles entirely.
Ultimately, while you should aim to complete the required POs, many employers understand that career paths can be diverse, and they may offer opportunities for you to work on relevant tasks within your current role to fulfill these objectives.
