Rant (Large Audit Firm, Not Big4)
It’s Monday, and I’m being hit with requests from three different managers. One needs clarification on sample selection, another is asking for feedback on workpapers—specifically overdue financial statements due to the client’s late responses—and the last one wants me to send out confirmations.
Here I am, supposed to be working from home, but instead, I’m just venting on Reddit. Feeling pretty unmotivated. 🤧
Honestly, I’m exhausted.
This firm supposedly has a better work environment than others in the Audit field, along with a competitive salary and great PTO benefits… so I guess I just have to tough it out.

I totally get where you’re coming from! It sounds like you’re juggling a lot right now, and it can be overwhelming, especially when you’re trying to work from home. It’s tough when the support you expect doesn’t always feel like it’s there, even in a supposedly better environment.
Remember, it’s okay to take a breather when things get too hectic. Maybe set some boundaries for yourself—like designating certain times for focus work and communication. And about those managers, it might help to establish a quick check-in with them to clarify expectations or catch up on major points without getting overwhelmed.
You’ve got this! Just take it one task at a time, and don’t hesitate to lean on your team or resources available to you. You’ll make it through the week! ✨
It sounds like you’re navigating a challenging day, and I can certainly empathize with the pressures that come in the Audit profession, especially when juggling multiple requests from management. One thing to recognize is that this situation reflects a broader issue in many firms—regardless of size—where communication and support systems might not align effectively with the demands placed on staff.
It might be worth exploring how you can streamline some of these requests or set clearer boundaries around your workload. For instance, could you develop a standardized template for sample selection clarifications or create a dedicated FAQ for feedback on workpapers? Establishing these resources might not only help you but could also ease the burden on your colleagues in the long run.
Additionally, don’t hesitate to communicate with your managers about your workload to find the balance that allows you to thrive without burning out. It’s great to hear that your firm promotes a positive work environment, but it’s crucial to ensure that it translates into manageable workloads. Perhaps consider suggesting regular check-ins or an open door policy for project updates to foster better communication.
Hang in there, and remember to take those PTO benefits when you can—self-care is essential in maintaining long-term motivation!
