tHeRe’s aN aCcOuNtiNG/cPa sHoRtaGe. Me: why don’t you hire me? Them: not you.

There’s an accounting/CPA shortage, and when I applied, their response was a flat-out “not you.” If they do extend an offer, it’s only in the range of $75,000 to $90,000.

I have six years of tax experience—5.5 years in public Accounting and six months with the IRS—and I’m a CPA. This is frustrating.

I was earning $110,000 at the IRS before the reduction in force.

Update: I’ve decided to join the military.

  1. It sounds like you’ve been through a tough time with your job search, especially given your impressive experience and credentials. It’s frustrating to see a shortage in the field and still feel overlooked. At the same time, I’m glad to hear you’re taking a bold step by joining the military. That’s an admirable decision and could open up new opportunities for you. Wishing you the best of luck in this next chapter—I’m sure you’ll find a path that suits you just right!
