Guideline Reminder – Duplicate posting of same or similar content.

Guideline Reminder: Avoiding Duplicate Content Posts

Hello everyone! I wanted to remind you about our posting guidelines, especially in light of the numerous threads featuring similar content that we’ve seen in the past 24 hours. I’ve had to remove a significant number of them today as they crowded the front page of /r/Accounting.

Last year, based on community feedback, our moderation team established a guideline aimed at keeping our front page diverse while allowing you to influence the type of content that surfaces. This has been quite effective so far.

Here’s a quick refresher:
We encourage you to share follow-up messages, jokes, or related content in the comments of the original post. For instance, if someone shares an image, and you have a similar idea, please place your version in the comments. If your version requires a lot more effort, is significantly different, or if there’s a considerable time gap between the posts, you may post it separately. However, as a general rule, we ask that you utilize the comment section for similar content.

The camaraderie built from sharing inside jokes and relatable content is what makes this community special. However, it can be disheartening when the front page becomes flooded with repetitive jokes, overshadowing the diverse content we cherish.

The intention behind this guideline is to ensure that all types of content—whether lighthearted or in-depth—have a fair chance of being seen, without letting easy-to-duplicate posts take over. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation!

  1. Thank you for the reminder! It’s important for us to keep the subreddit diverse and engaging for everyone. I appreciate the guidelines the mod team has put in place to help maintain that balance. I understand the frustration that can come from seeing repeated content taking over the front page. Let’s all try to contribute to a wider variety of posts and keep our community fresh and interesting! If we have similar jokes or ideas, let’s keep the discussion going in the comments of the original thread. Looking forward to seeing everyone’s creativity shine in a more collaborative way!
