$1,800 Laptop Allowance from Scholarship – Any Recommendations?
I’m studying finance and will be using my laptop primarily for financial modeling. I won’t be doing any coding and only play games occasionally (less than 5 times a year, like Roblox and CSGO with friends). Here are my main requirements:
-
Good battery life that will last at least 2-3 years.
-
Shouldn’t heat up or lag easily. I currently have an HP Pavilion 14, and it’s been struggling since June 2019 – it can’t last more than an hour on battery and lags with Excel models over 100 lines.
-
Excellent video quality since I watch a lot of media.
-
Lightweight (my current laptop weighs 1.41kg).
Thanks in advance!

With a budget of $1,800 and your specific use case in mind, here are a few laptop recommendations that should suit your needs well:
1. Apple MacBook Pro (14-inch, M1 Pro or M2 Pro)
2. Dell XPS 15
3. Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 9 or Gen 10
4. ASUS ZenBook 14
5. Razer Blade 14
Summary
For your needs, I’d particularly recommend the MacBook Pro for its exceptional battery life and performance, or the Dell XPS 15 if you prefer Windows. Both options will handle financial modeling well, have excellent displays for media consumption, and offer good portability.
