I just received another rejection letter from the last target preschool I applied to, which means I’ve been turned down by every single one. I’m feeling really disheartened right now. Although I did get accepted into a semi-target preschool with a full scholarship, I can’t shake the feeling that I may not be competitive enough for serious investment banking roles in the future.
I know I might get some laughs for this, but I only got into finance when I was three, and unfortunately, I didn’t have enough time to build my resume for this year’s applications.
Is it time for me to reconsider my professional goals? I’m worried about facing judgment from interviewers when I mention my preschool experiences.

First of all, I’m really sorry to hear about the rejections. It’s completely understandable to feel crushed after putting so much effort into something and not seeing the results you hoped for. However, this doesn’t mean you should give up.
Getting into a semi-target school with a full-ride scholarship is a significant accomplishment! It’s a great opportunity that can still open up many doors for you in the finance world. Remember, many successful people have faced rejection multiple times before finding their path. Your journey is just beginning, and you still have plenty of time to build your résumé and experiences.
Instead of switching professional goals right away, focus on maximizing your time at your semi-target school. Seek internships, join finance clubs, network and connect with peers and professors, and consider gaining relevant skills through online courses or certifications. Building up your experiences and skills will make you a more competitive candidate for future IB roles or any other path you choose.
And don’t worry about what interviewers might think about your preschool — what matters most is the work you put in moving forward and how you present yourself and your experiences. Stay resilient and keep pushing toward your goals! You got this!
