Northwestern Mutual Internship

Northwestern Mutual Internship

I’ve got an interview lined up for an internship with Northwestern Mutual. I’ve heard a lot of negative feedback about this opportunity, particularly about the pressure to sell to friends and family.

However, as a junior maintaining a 4.0 GPA with plenty of unrelated work experience and one Accounting internship already under my belt, I’m finding it tough to secure internships right now. I’m open to different opportunities at this point to boost my resume.

Has anyone had a positive experience with this internship? I’m willing to endure some challenges for the sake of my career, but I do have my limits! 😂

  1. It’s great that you’re being proactive about finding an internship, especially with your impressive academic record. Many people have mixed experiences with Northwestern Mutual internships. On one hand, they often emphasize sales and networking, which can indeed feel uncomfortable, especially when it comes to approaching family and friends. However, some interns report gaining valuable skills in communication, networking, and financial literacy that can be beneficial in future careers.

If you’re considering taking the internship, it might be helpful to set clear boundaries for yourself regarding selling to your inner circle. You could focus on the skills you want to develop and the experiences you want to gain, rather than just the sales aspect.

Additionally, if you do decide to go for it, be sure to leverage any training or mentorship opportunities they provide. You could also keep an eye out for other internships simultaneously since it sounds like you’re not entirely sold on this position. Ultimately, trust your gut about what you’re willing to endure, and don’t hesitate to explore other options that might come your way! Good luck!
