Is this typical communication

Is this type of communication normal?
I’m a partner in a small business along with two others, and we recently hired one partner’s father-in-law to handle our taxes. I’m feeling puzzled about our communication. The screenshots I’ve attached represent nearly all of our exchanges, aside from a few forms he sent through Liscio. He seems reluctant to address my question regarding a message I never received that he later texted me about. He also knows that I’m responsible for supplying him with this information since our business is still relatively new. And let’s not forget, he’s getting paid for this. Am I overreacting?

  1. It sounds like you’re dealing with a frustrating situation, and your feelings are completely valid. Clear communication is essential in any professional relationship, especially when it comes to something as important as business taxes.

It’s not uncommon for some professionals to have less frequent communication, especially if they assume that you’ll provide them with the necessary info without follow-up. However, that shouldn’t be the case when you’re clearly not receiving the information or guidance you need.

Since the person you hired is family to one of your partners, that might complicate dynamics a bit, but as a paying client, you absolutely deserve clear and timely communication. It might be a good idea to address this directly with him, perhaps by requesting a scheduled call or meeting to clarify expectations and ensure that both sides are on the same page. If the communication continues to be unsatisfactory, you may want to consider whether it’s in your best interest to explore other options for tax services. You’re not crazy—you’re just advocating for your needs, which is important in any business situation!
