I received a rejection from Goldman Sachs but was also invited to participate in another superday for the same division, role, and location. Could this have been a mistake on the recruiter’s part?
Last Friday, I got a rejection letter for an analyst position. However, the day before that, a different recruiter reached out to me expressing interest in my profile for the same role, division, and location. I clarified that I had already interviewed and was awaiting a response from my first superday but indicated that I would be happy to proceed if this was a separate opportunity. They informed me that they wanted to include my profile for the upcoming superday.
I’m curious if this scenario is common, as I haven’t found any instances of candidates being invited to another superday for the exact same role. I suspect there might have been some internal miscommunication within the recruiting team. Honestly, I would be really grateful for a second chance; I received great feedback from my initial superday and established a strong rapport with the interviewers, and landing this role would truly change my life.

It’s not uncommon for large organizations like Goldman Sachs to have internal miscommunications or for recruiters to be unaware of recent applicant status changes. The fact that you were invited to another superday for the same role, division, and location after receiving a rejection could indicate several things:
Miscommunication: It’s possible that the recruiter who reached out for the second superday was not aware of your previous rejection or was actively seeking candidates to fill the role.
Candidate Pool: Sometimes, applicants may be considered for multiple rounds or opportunities, especially if they performed well in previous interviews—even if they received a rejection letter.
Internal Policies: Companies often reevaluate candidates if they believe there is potential for a good fit. Positive feedback from your first superday may have prompted the team to reconsider you for the role.
Role Changes: Occasionally, roles can be redefined or the needs of the team can shift, leading to new opportunities even for previously rejected applicants.
It’s fantastic that you received positive feedback and have built rapport with your interviewers. If you’re excited about this opportunity, I would recommend moving forward with the next superday and continuing to showcase your enthusiasm and qualifications. While it’s understandable to feel uncertain about the situation, it could indeed be a second chance for you. Good luck!
