Insulting offer job offer | In disbelief a week after still.

Disrespectful Job Offer | Still in Disbelief a Week Later

For context, I have about 1.5 months of experience as a Personal Assistant at a top 10 firm. I already have an offer from another company and another opportunity for a hybrid role in Accounting and real estate.

Recently, I interviewed with a niche firm that offered me an Audit internship before potentially transitioning into a full-time role. Initially, I thought this could be a valuable way to gain experience, and if things went well, it might lead to a full-time position. However, if I decline this offer, I’ll need to go through another interview for the full-time role.

I genuinely feel disrespected by this offer. What’s their strategy here—getting the work of an associate while paying intern wages and then not guaranteeing a full-time position? In a bizarre world where I accept this internship, how would I even present that on my resume? It would look like I went from intern to full-time back to intern, which would create a confusing gap in my employment history.

Additionally, I had scheduled a third interview, which they rescheduled just a day before it was set to happen. Honestly, I’m just entertaining this out of sheer confusion—I’m baffled that they thought this was a reasonable offer to present to someone.

  1. It sounds like you’re in a frustrating situation, and your feelings are completely valid. It’s disappointing when a company doesn’t seem to recognize your experience or value, especially after you’ve put in the effort to secure interviews and potentially transition into a full-time role.

The offer of an Audit internship after already gaining some experience seems to undervalue your skills and what you bring to the table. Companies often use internships as a way to gauge potential hires, but it shouldn’t come at the expense of fair compensation and respect for your qualifications.

As for your resume, transitioning from an intern back to an intern role could send mixed signals to future employers. It definitely raises concerns about how you present your professional journey. If you were to accept their offer, being clear about how the experience fits into your overall career path in interviews would be key.

In the meantime, continue to weigh your options carefully. If you already have offers that respect your experience, it might be worth prioritizing those rather than having to navigate the uncertainty that comes with this Audit internship role. Trust your instincts—there are opportunities out there that will appreciate what you have to offer!
